So this type of “topical” story that we see increasingly depressing in Stuff and the Herald will be written by someone with a ridiculous title.
It’ll be something meaningless like “millennial urban social media associate editor” and written by someone who seems desperate to be able to add their favorite pronouns in a font bigger than their job title.
But smaller than their name.
The “news” story will go something like this: A social media influencer who wears next to nothing in public and then complains that he can’t wear his Bikini Thong to the beach/flight/funeral.
The rest of the story then is a bunch of ‘you go girl’ comments from other people on the thread plus a comment from an academic saying that if people can’t wear string bikinis to funerals, it’s It’s sexism that tries to control women, which the writer will be purring to agree with.
You can trade anything the social media influencer does but the body of the “news” story is cut and pasted by other people commenting and the academic still says any criticism of the social influencer will be sexist and against women.
On the Stuff version of these “news” stories, you get the added fun of Stuff begging you at the bottom of the “news” to help fund more mundane shit like this by donating???
This despite Stuff advertising to pay for the content PLUS all that creamy public money they’re ripping NZ on Air for!
So I have to put up with the social influencers’ petty culture wars, their Woke lynchings, and the undeserved smugness of the ‘Millennium urban social media associate editor’, WHILE they hold out their gold-plated begging bowl?
Can’t all this “journalism” pass behind a giant paywall?
As you can see, our begging bowl is modest…
