“A gift to Maltese women”
9:20 a.m. Independent candidate Arnold Cassola said in a statement that Monday’s court ruling which established he can challenge a gender balancing mechanism was “a gift to Maltese women on International Women’s Day “.
“The PN and the PL had concocted a plan between them to consolidate their hold on the Maltese parliament, ensuring that they each got six more female MPs,” Cassola said.
In reality, the gender correction mechanism only favors PL and PN women and excludes all other independent-minded Maltese women from the benefit of the cooptation mechanism,” he said.
